The air is even more pleasant
when, like Lampe Berger, you are celebrating 110 years of
innovation. The first Lampe Berger lamp was created in 1898 by
Maurice Berger, a pharmacy dispenser, to purify the air in
hospital wards.
Living conditions improved and
cleansing of premises became an important preoccupation. The
Lampe Berger lamp was to contribute effectively to the
disinfection of hospitals from 1907 onwards. It was then seen in
houses requiring the air to be cleaned.
1930: Fragrance began to
provide a pleasurable dimension; the taste for beautiful objects
also reached its peak and the Lampe Berger lamp became a
collector's item.

Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso
were the first “well-known people” to appreciate it.

Then came innovations
concerning the exploration of materials like porcelain and a
widening of the range to make Lampe Berger accessible to all. A
new direction was given at the beginning of the 1980s with a
fruitful cooperation with designers, who conveyed a modern
touch.
In 1996 the company became
structured: a Research and Development department was created in
order to continue to improve product performance. Since that
date, innovations have been continuous and are systematically
patented worldwide, in more than 20 countries.
Interview by Corinne Gomez,
Research and Development Manager, LAMPE BERGER, Doctor of
Chemistry "The unparalleled performances of Lampe Berger lamps
are proof of the effectiveness of the destruction of undesirable
odours as well as the quality, finesse, speed and duration of
the perfuming of a room. "

Well
Being and Pleasure in the Home
Feeling good at home
contributes to our day-to-day well-being. Lampe Berger makes it
possible to improve air quality and to fragrance it. In this way
it contributes to the creation of a pleasant olfactory
environment. To benefit fully from this well being, there are 3
simple steps:
1. Lampe Berger recommends the
essentials for improving the quality of interior air:
- Air rooms regularly (at home
and also in the office) in order to renew the interior air
- Vacuum frequently,
particularly if you have rugs or carpets > Keep surfaces
dust-free
- Avoid smoking in the home
- Have boilers serviced
annually
- Regularly clean all vents
and ventilation grilles, and all the heating or ventilation
system filters
- Do not overheat the house.
The temperature usually recommended is 66°F.
- Using deodorizes is not an
exemption from following good hygiene practices.
2. Eliminate unpleasant odors,
tobacco, cooking etc. Evaluate the olfactory well-being of your
living environment: we invite you to perform the “Air Diagnosis”
available on our website.
3. Perfume the house with the
home fragrance of your choice.
Cleaner, perfumed air in the
home LAMPE BERGER, the leader in innovations for air care,
cleanses the room air by destroying unwanted odors and providing
long-lasting fragrance, due to its exclusive diffusion system.
By eliminating unpleasant
smelling molecules (tobacco, cooking, etc.), LAMPE BERGER
cleanses the interior air in your home.
Unlike any other system, which
merely masks the odors, the LAMPE BERGER diffusion system makes
it possible to destroy, by catalytic oxidation, the molecules
causing the odors of tobacco and cooking, and other domestic
odors.

• The heat developed by the
catalysis attracts the unpleasant smelling molecules to it and
breaks them down.

• The catalyst of the burner
supports the oxidation of these molecules and prevents them from
recombining .
The results of the efficiency
of a Lampe Berger lamp in deodorizing a smoky atmosphere were
proved by IAP Sentic in July 2006. Cigarette smoke is
particularly representative in this test because it contains
most of the molecules found in bad smells.
>> Fragrances the house LAMPE
BERGER technology, a patented innovation, allows extremely fine
diffusion of the home fragrance into the room, giving
unequalled, fast, long-lasting and homogeneous performance.
The high standards for the
selection and quality of the raw materials used, the internal
norms and the systematic controls at all stages of manufacture
are guarantees of the safety of use of LAMPE BERGER home
fragrances.
20 to 30 minutes of diffusion
=> several hours of well-being. i.e. a maximum of 1 minute of
operation per m3
Only 20 to 30 minutes for 2
hours’ perfuming in a 30 m3 (12m2) room.
The principal part of the LAMPE
BERGER diffusion system is the AIR PUR System 3C® burner. The
innovations, formalized in 6 international patents, represented
by the burner in the improvement of interior air quality
underline its difference.

The
Catalysis
LAMPE BERGER undertakes
constant research to improve the performance of its products.
Its work concerns catalysis, i.e. the Lampe Berger operating
system, the catalyst, the catalysis medium, the home fragrances,
which feed the combustion and the lamps. Lampe Berger has
committed to the A.I.S.E industry initiative Air Fresheners
Stewardship Programm.
Catalysis
Catalytic
combustion is a flameless combustion, which takes place because
of the action of a catalyst.
A catalyst accelerates a
chemical reaction. It also makes it possible to reduce the
energy required for activation and thus to work at much lower
temperatures than otherwise necessary for the same reaction. In
this way energy consumption is limited.
Generally a catalytic system is
made up of: • a porous medium which must have the largest
possible specific surface, because the reaction takes place at
the interface between the gaseous fluid and the solid. • an
active phase, generally a metal or an oxide which provides
active sites, where the chemical reaction takes place.
The most well-known example of
this is the catalytic converter: it aims to prevent the
formation of products, present in exhaust gases, that are
harmful to health, and to convert them to limit air pollution.
Catalysis is used in the manufacturing processes of about 80% of
products in everyday use: lotions, gels, creams, mousses, soaps
or shampoos to mention only cosmetics.
The catalytic medium chosen by
LAMPE BERGER is the ceramic in the AIR PUR System 3C® burner. It
is the result of several years of research. Its regular,
constant porosity plays an important part in ensuring efficient
cleansing of the air and the quality of the diffusion of the
home fragrances.
1. The catalyst chosen by LAMPE
BERGER is a precious metal : platinum. It is present on the
outer part of the burner.
The ceramic medium, equipped
with the catalyst or catalytic burner, will make cleaning of the
air in the home and destruction of odors possible.
Interview by Corinne Gomez,
Research and Development Manager, LAMPE BERGER, Doctor of
Chemistry

“The catalysis area is heated
homogeneously to about 500°C, which allows catalytic oxidation
of isopropanol and ensures destruction of the odors."
